Playing golf can be pretty expensive. No doubting that. No matter what though almost all golfers trade up their equipment pretty much whenever the big OEM's come out with a new model. We're all following the technologies and understandably so.
Contemporary golf clubs are easier to play than clubs from even as recently as a few years in the past. New models and composite materials have made golf that much easier and much more enjoyable for the majority of golfers. It's a more forgiving world with modern equipment.
Shaft design has as much to do with the improvements the way clubs play as just about anything else. Superior shaft materials and superior manufacturing processes have given us shafts which can be precisely fitted for our own distinct swing. A golf club is driven by the shaft. Fit the wrong shaft and the club won't perform to its full potential. Pure and simple.
Shafts and club heads today are designed to be launched high for the most carry possible. No more hitting them low and playing for roll. Long drives today are long carrying and high. This also makes for a more accurate drive with less roll to worry about.
Larger club heads, right on the restrictions set by the game's governing bodies for volume and COR mean we all have a better chance of driving well. The maxed out volume also makes our modern drivers far more forgiving on miss-hits. The bigger volume means the Moment of Inertia is superior. Increased MOI means less twisting on bad shots. Less twisting means less loss of distance and accuracy.
Golf equipment is getting expensive. Investing in the latest models can run to many hundreds of dollars, with the newest Titanium drivers coming in at over $250.
There are other options available however. Golf clubs that use the same high quality components and shafts as the major golf companies. These clubs are commonly known as clones or clone golf clubs.
Although there are some clone golf clubs which are simply knock-offs of big OEM's that try to trick customers by using similar names or color schemes (think TailorMade for TaylorMade for example), there are some top quality clone golf clubs to be found, clubs that are designed around their own features and playing characteristics.
Any quality golf club has some pretty standard features. Things like:
* High Moment of Inertia
* Cavity Backs
* Offset Clubs
* Perimeter Weighting
* High COR
These are some of the design features you will find on the finest clone golf clubs. Clubs that only however cost a fraction of their big name competitors. Factor in the custom build advantage these clone manufacturers make available and the pot really is sweet. High quality materials, top quality components and a price tag that's right.
The ball won't know what just hit it.
